Re: Did Force and KB Crash?
Man that was bad.
The cones may have missed but there are plastic pieces within the cones, I wonder if that became shrapnel when they were hit and thats what got the tire?
It's scary how that chassis came apart. I wonder if Team Force does something different with theirs.
Glad its not worse then it is

Bernsteins F/C is built exactly like JFR's cars are.
I for one will be anxiously wating on what JFR, Ford, and Delphi find out from all the onboard sensors on Johns car.

Re: Did Force and KB Crash?
I know Force won the round, but how far ahead was he? It might be hard for any pieces of the timing equipment to get knocked 'forward' to go under Force's car.
From a cursory look at the tapes, it looks like two different incidents [Bernstein hitting the cones and Forces car coming apart] that happened to occur at the same time.
It was eery watching the camera follow the front half of JF car into the sand trap, and then realize he wasn't "in" that part of the car.

Force was behind Bersteins car when Kenny hit the blocks, but the blocks went behind John car, if the blocks whould have went under Johns car the blocks wouldn't have been as intact as they where.

I'm replaying on my HiDef DVR on my 50" HiDef LCD TV. (In other words......pretty clear picture)
I can clearly SEE shards and small pieces from the first block appearing to go under Johns car.
NOT the block, but definitely pieces that were in that foam block, the mirror perhaps?
At 300 mph that could easily take out a tire and precipitate the rest of the carnage.
If not that is one HELL of a coincidence.
During the the broadcast even Mike Dunn speculated that (not Paul Page )

Re: Did Force and KB Crash?
That is a possibility, my friend that has a transformer AA/FA-AA/FC, we are currently updating the chassis current sfi specs, but a couple of years back he hit the 1/8 mile block at 240 mph, it knocked of few small pieces of the block off and broke the plastic reflector that is in the middle of it, but the block did contain all the broken pieces of the reflector. Each block costs around $150.00 apiece

On the replay I can clearly see shiny pieces ejecting from the immediate point of impact with KB's car.
I'm by no means a professional accident investigator and also reserve the right to be absolutely off base.
But some debris of some type made it under John's car.
Whether or not this began it all is up to NHRA and JFR.

Re: Did Force and KB Crash?
I had not seen much video of it before, but after seeing multiple views, it is easy to believe that parts of the timing light got knocked under the car.....right now we're all just sort of guessing....looking at the parts and pieces will tell the story.

even if thats true.....i don't know about the rest of you, but i am way more interested in why that chassis came apart where it did. Nobody builds a better car than Murf and nobody today is more committed to safety that John Medlen and JFR, so something catastrophic had to happen to compromise the integrity of that chassis

Re: Did Force and KB Crash?
Man, that is a wicked crash. Glad the Champ is ok - banged up but ok.
Did someone at JFR kick a black cat into a mirror in the off season ?
Unbelieveable.
Mark.

I am also very intrested as to why the chassis broke apart right infront of the rollcage like it did, My car is based on an 86' McKinney ta/fc chassis that came from Frank Hawleys dragracing school and alot of my friends wish they had one, and they also belive like I do that have I a quality chassis.
