George Landis recovers from injury, ready for Atlanta NMCA event

George Landis and the entire Next Generation Racing Team are hopeful for
a great showing in their return to Atlanta Dragway later this month.

(9-04-08) Boca Raton, FL - Next Generation Racing Team is pleased to announce that its driver, George Landis, has fully recovered from injuries suffered last July in his Florida high performance shop, when an exhausted pipe fell and severed his lower leg. Fully recovered, Landis will compete in the upcoming NMCA Muscle Car Nationals at Commerce, Georgia's Atlanta Dragway, September 19-21.

Landis' Atlanta Dragway experience has been somewhat sporadic, first visiting the Georgia 1/4 mile for a motorcycle event in the late 1980's. It took 20 years before Landis made it back to Atlanta, this time as driver of Next Generation Racing Team's Hemi-equipped Dodge Stratus. "The Atlanta event from 2007 was one of our more eventful outings," commented Landis.

"We broke a lifter during a test session on Friday, and were forced to wait until Saturday before the parts arrived," recalled Landis. Realizing the clock was going to expire before the repairs could be made, Landis rolled to the line on 7 cylinders, and with gritty determination, managed to break into the field during Saturday's last qualifying session. Landis eventually made it to the finals on Sunday, a feat the team hopes to repeat in it's return to Atlanta later this month.

Other than taking a few hits on the practice tree, Landis has pretty much had to refrain from any race related testing during his rehabilitation. "It has definitely messed up this season of racing, but we're hoping to finish the season strong, beginning with Atlanta," says Landis. The team has taken advantage of the recent down time by performing extensive engine testing at Oddy's Automotive.

Favorable results were gathered by crew chief, Billy Leverentz, who also owns and operates the New York-based engine shop. In addition to greater engine knowledge, the team also feels they've made solid strides in sorting out a brand new 3 disk clutch set-up. "We've got some surprises, and we're looking to break records," says team owner, Steve Quint.

After the NMCA Atlanta event, Next Generation Racing Team has plans to attend the 6th annual Shakedown at E'Town event, held October 4-5 at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ.
