Valvoline Track Tips ‘Countdown to the Championship’

LEXINGTON, Ky. , (Aug. 27, 2007) – With more than 100 years of racing experience, Valvoline, America’s original motor oil, heads to Indianapolis for the National Hot Rod Association’s (NHRA) 53rd running of the U.S. Nationals, Aug. 29-Sept. 3 at O’Reilly Raceway Park. The first race in the NHRA’s inaugural ‘Countdown to the Championship, the U.S. Nationals is where drag racing where legends are born and history is made while attempting to win the sports’ most prestigious race.

Previewing the race is current NHRA Top Fuel point’s leader and 18-time national event winner ‘Hot’ Rod Fuller.

Valvoline Keys for the ‘Countdown to the Championship’: U.S. Nationals (Race 1 of 6)

O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis :
Consistency will be a key. You have to go down the track from A-to-B in qualifying to gather as much information possible to tune for a race day combination.

Elimination day courage by crew chiefs will test resolve. You’ll need to be both consistent and aggressive on race day combinations. Take what the track gives you as lower-seeded cars may gamble on set-up in hopes of an upset. Race the track, not the car in the next lane.
Friday night sessions will be critical to qualify in the top-half of the ladder. Making a good opening pass will allow you to be more aggressive and go after it on the Saturday qualifying session.

Manage the heat and humidity of IRP. Cars should be able to run 4.40s under cooler conditions. If the humidity rolls in, it’s a completely different race track.

It’s a long weekend on parts. For its Top Fuel and Funny Car teams, Valvoline blends a special Nitro 70 synthetic racing oil to help protect parts when the engine runs hotter. And by protecting engine parts, you directly gain a competitive advantage.

Whether it’s the high demands of the NHRA U.S. Nationals or the daily commute, Valvoline brands provide superior performance enhancement, cost savings and longer life with a complete line of conventional, synthetic and high mileage products. Through lessons learned in racing, Valvoline develops products that provide superior performance and protection for racers and consumers every day.
