Atchison “itching” to get back on track
London, Ontario, July 19th, 2006 -- 3 Straight IHRA Funny Car Champion Rob Atchison returns Michigan with the Erickson Manufacturing Monte Carlo to the IHRA Torco Race Fuels Norhern Nationals hoping to turn the 2006 season around. “We have struggled a bit this year with consistency and we all look forward to coming back to Martin where we have had success,” stated Rob Atchison. We have won this race the last 3 years here so what better place to turn things around in 2006 and get our program back on track. The owners and the staff of US 131 deserve a lot of credit for making this facility one the finest places we race. Jason Peterson and his staff here have always treated us great here and we love racing in front of the great US 131 fans. We have been off for a month after the rain postponed the Canadian Nationals at Toronto Motorsports Park and we’re just itching to get back onto the track and get racing.
Rob and Crew would like to wish their friend and fellow IHRA Funny Car Champion Bunny Burkett good luck with her forth coming cancer surgery and speedy and complete recovery. “Bunny and the Boys have been very special friends to all of us in the IHRA Funny Car Class and IHRA family for a very long time,” stated Rob. Although Rob and the Atchison Racing Team have not visited the Winner’s Circle in 2006 they remain close to point’s leader Mark Thomas in their quest for a record setting 4th straight Funny car championship. “We are all positive about our chances and we know we have to make the car run more consistent,” stated Atchison. Although the car has been fast it has been inconsistent from one round to another with tire shake and we know unless we change that we will achieve our goals. This class is very competitive and you have to be on top of your game every round and we know we have to race a lot better if we want to win races and another championship. The three time IHRA Championship Team is made up of Crew Chief Bob Atchison, Maxine Atchison, Kyle Harris, Les Mellows, Shelly Miller, Pat Ryan and Dennis Smith.
