KENNY BERNSTEIN PREDICTS BIG WEEKEND FOR NHRA ENTHUSISTS AT NORWALK RACEWAY PARK

NORWALK , Ohio – “A mass of humanity and a mob of fans” was the recollection of six-time NHRA champion Kenny Bernstein when asked his impression of Norwalk Raceway Park .

“It’s been many years since I’ve been to the track, but I know we have a big following of fans that are planning to attend the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals,” said Bernstein. “I think it will be a big weekend for NHRA enthusiasts.”

Last year, NHRA announced the addition of Norwalk Raceway Park to its member track network and set a 2007 national event date of June 29-July 1

Bernstein, who has returned this year as a regular campaigner on the NHRA circuit at the wheel of the Monster Energy/Lucas Oil Funny Car, is gaining consistency with each race, and like all fellow competitors, is vying for a spot in the countdown to eight.

“The competition is vicious,” said Bernstein. “It’s an all-out war each weekend just to get in the field for Sunday’s eliminations. Past champions and past winners have all been left on the outside at the conclusion of Saturday qualifying.

“Now we’re going to ratchet the crew chief stress level up one more notch with the hot summer days ahead. It will put more pressure on the brain trusts to figure out how to get traction to the ground.

“The summer months take a different type of tune-up and traditionally we’ve seen a change in the dominance of teams, though this season has been wacky from the sense that a race team will win one weekend and fail to qualify the next. So we’ll have to see how Norwalk and the races through the summer months play out.”

Nitro (Top Fuel and Funny Car) qualifying begins Friday, June 29 at 5 p.m. with a second session at 8 p.m. There are two qualifying rounds Saturday, 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. with final eliminations beginning Sunday at 11 a.m.
