Scruggs' 3.85 Leads By a Tenth; Pilcher, Hill, Thomas In Front After First Session
Huntsville, Ala. (June 1, 2007) — Pro Extreme driver Jason Scruggs provided the biggest highlight of the first day of the Flowmaster American Drag Racing League's AMS Staff Leasing Summer Drags, posting a stunning 3.859 at 196.76 mph to lead by a full tenth of a second after one qualifying session.
Scruggs led a group of four drivers into the 3-second zone at Huntsville Dragway, but the other three weren't really that close. Quain Stott recorded a solid 3.951 to finish in the No. 2 position, with Bubba Stanton (3.983) and Troy Critchley (3.994) also dipping under four seconds.
Other first-day leaders at the Summer Drags were Johnny Pilcher in Pro Nitrous (4.112 at 177.87 mph), Mike Hill in Extreme 10.5 (4.383, 169.24), and Coodee Thomas in Pro Extreme Motorcycle (4.389, 163.64).
The Summer Drags, the fourth of eight events on the 2007 ADRL schedule, continue Saturday with two more qualifying sessions for all four ADRL professional classes (noon and 2 p.m. local time). Eliminations begin at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
Pilcher, the incoming points leader in Pro Nitrous, barely edged John Deflorian for the top spot in Pro Nitrous. Running in the first pair, Deflorian posted a 4.113 that held up for most of the session. Pilcher's 4.112, though, proved to be just .0003-second quicker. Stan Allen wound up No. 3 with a 4.12 best.
Hill's 4.38 leads the Extreme 10.5 class by a full tenth. In the ADRL's two-wheeled class, Thomas, who entered the event only a single point behind leader Steve Drake, also enters Saturday's action with a big advantage over the rest of his foes. He leads Billy Vose by seven-hundredths.
