CLEAN DAY KEEPS WORSHAM IN THE FIELD, IN 10th SPOT

Del Worsham joined nearly the entire Funny Car class by not making a full pass during Saturday's first session, but then came back with a safe and clean 4.83 in the final session. The run was not an improvement over Worsham's 4.803 from Friday night, and with position-bumping at classic levels it was unclear exactly where it all left Worsham in the field, until the final number sorting was done. The red Checker, Schuck's, Kragen Impala will race out of the No. 10 spot on Sunday, and Worsham will face Gary Densham in round one, for the second race in a row.

"We kind of figured that last session was going to be a real madhouse, with guys bumping in and bumping out," Worsham said. "We figured we were safe for the field, and our goal was just to put another full lap on the board. We wanted to make sure the motor was happy, and we absolutely did not want to go into Sunday after a tire-smoker. We met of those goals, and we knew the car was so safely tuned it could easily go quicker than that, so I feel pretty good about it. Now, of course, the weather is the thing we can't control, and it looks like we're in for something completely different tomorrow. We'll just come out and try to go A to B, and hope we have enough to go some rounds.

"We haven't been hurting parts like we were earlier in the year, and that's a key to making into these fields. You can't bobble at all, and if you spit the rods out of the car at 1,000-feet you're probably not going to make the show, so just keeping the motor clean is a real benefit right now. This was historic, today, with John Force not making the field for the first time since I was a teenager, so I'm glad we're in and we'll do our best to do something good."
