Chandler, Ariz -- NHRA Veteran Alcohol Funny Car driver Jeff Carroll and his YBeNormal/Hice Cellar Team went to the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Pacific Division 7 with a brand new motor combination and valuable data from a few weeks ago. Their team was ready to race.

On Friday, Jeff and his team found themselves in the sixth position after running 5.825 seconds at just under 247 miles per hour. "Our first run wasn't pretty, but we got down the track. We learned that we were still a little too aggressive in the clutch department, an area that we've been paying very close attention to" Carroll said.

"That evening, during regular maintenance, we found a small issue with a rod bearing that led to disassembling the motor completely and rebuilding it. We were missing two valuable crew members, so it took longer than normal, but we got the motor back together and ready for Saturday just before 1:00 AM".

The first session on Saturday went much better for the team. Carroll ran close to a career best at 5.754 at almost 252 miles per hour which placed the YBeNormal Team in the ninth position. "Running close to 252 miles per hour showed us great promise coming in to the third qualifying session especially since the car was still shaking pretty good at the top of low gear on that pass" said Carroll.

For Saturday's final qualifying session, with the air and track temperature lingering in the sixty degree range, Jeff's team knew they had to accumulate all of their data to get through the tire shake and run a solid pass to qualify. The YBeNormal Team went about 1.3 seconds into the run and the tires started to spin which slowed them down and they finished the weekend in the number ten position. Carroll noted "we learned more about our clutch management system on our third pass that will help us in the future. Although we didn't make it in this tough field, we have great data moving forward and look forward to our next race".

On a positive note, David Carroll, Jeff's Dad, made it to the sixth round of competition in Super Gas at the Pacific Division 7 opener where he eventually lost to the event winner. So all in all, the whole team had a great weekend.

Jeff Carroll and the YBeNormal/Hice Cellar Alcohol Funny Car Team will next be racing on April 12-15 at the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals at The Strip in Las Vegas, Nevada.
