HERNANDEZ FIGHTING WEATHER CONCERNS AT VMP; QUALIFYING TO BE HARD-FOUGHT BATTLE

DINWIDDIE, Va. - Josh Hernandez is aware that he's stuck between a rock and a hard place this weekend at Virginia Motorsports Park. The second-year driver for the AMS-Rage team has spent much of Thursday and Friday confined to his trailer watching consistent rainfall consume the qualifying opportunities afforded the Pro Modified division at the NHRA Torco Nationals.

If the rains subside for Saturday, most likely the field will be set on one qualifying attempt. If the event is cancelled and rescheduled for next week, then he'll have to withdraw from competition due to next week's ADRL commitment in Kennedale, Texas.

"Whatever happens - happens," Hernandez said. "We are ready to battle any scenario to reach our goal and that is the winner's circle. Unfortunately rain is something none of us ever want to experience during a race weekend, but the one thing is that it is equally as tough for everyone."

Hernandez enters this weekend a two-time champion on the tour with convincing victories in Houston and Indianapolis. He also has two championships on the IHRA side of the fence. In fact, in just his two years of driving, Hernandez has scored eight career national event victories as well as "Rookie of the Year" on the NHRA tour.

As impressive as those accolades are, Hernandez plays off their importance on his resume. Hernandez is quick to point out it is a team effort that has made this success possible.

"We are one unit," Hernandez said. "I get most of the credit because I am the driver but this is all possible because we have worked together. It's not something we had to learn. It just came naturally."

But this weekend's event calls for an incredible effort from everyone involved.

"We'll just do what we have to do and we'll do it without thinking about it," Hernandez said. "We have no other choice."
