Carter looking to stay in the hunt in Toronto

CAYUGA, Ont. - With the IHRA eMax Drag Racing Series winding down, several championship chases are going down to the wire. Alcohol Funny Car racer Thomas Carter heads into this weekend's IHRA Canadian Nationals at Toronto Motorsports Park locked in a three way battle for the Alcohol Funny Car Championship. Currently third in standings, Carter and his "Jawbreaker" Motorsports team are looking to make a strong showing and gain some ground.

Carter, a practicing Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in Victoria, Texas, cites his team will stick to the same approach that put them in their current position: consistency.

"We just have to stay focused and concentrate on the task at hand," said Carter. "We lost some ground in Epping to Atchison and Thomas, but we still have a shot at the title, no doubt about it. We're not giving up by any means. We're just going to go out there and try to stay consistent like we have all year. That's what got us here. It's a lot easier said than done. It's tempting to go out and hop it up after you see someone run a big number, but we just have to run our own race, and run our own game."

Thomas currently trails defending three-time Champion Rob Atchison by 89 points and former five-time Champion Mark Thomas by 51.

"We definitely need to gain ground at this stage, but there's still a lot of racing left to do," stated Carter. "I really think it's going to go down to the last race. Right now the worst we're going to finish is third, and that's nothing to be ashamed of."

Qualifying begins on Friday with one session, followed by two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
