PMRA points leader getting ready for final events of season

HAMILTON, ONTARIO (August 21, 2008) - Last year’s Pro Modified Racing Association Champion Bruce Boland is hoping to repeat his success this year, but realizes the final PMRA events of 2008 are not going to be easy.

The final races of the 2008 season will be at the Grand Bend Motorplex August 30 and 31, and at the Cayuga Dragway September 13 and 14. The Cayuga event will host a full qualifying-elimination race from the rained-out May race, plus eliminations from the previously rained-out race at the KC Auto Parts Family Day in June.

Boland is presently number one in the 2008 Championship Point Award Series sponsored by Wix Filtration Products, Valvoline, Uni-Select, and Moen.

“I think I’m safe for Grand Bend,” said the driver of the B&B Racing 1963 Corvette Pro Modified. “But I’m going to have to be on my toes.”

With his recent win at Sanair, Terry Brown of Caledonia, Ontario, jumped up to second in the points.

Boland is sitting with 1136 points, and Brown has 1094 points, which equals just over four rounds of eliminations and the best chance of any PMRA driver to dethrone the Champion.

In third is Jeff Roth of Kitchener, Ontario with 1062 points, and next are Randy Jewell of Holley, New York and Joe Boniferro of Niagara Falls, Ontario, both with 1058 points.

While the last three drivers are not far away in points, none of them qualified at the PMRA June event at Cayuga, which was partially rained out and the eliminations rescheduled for the September make-up race.

Both Boland and Brown are qualified for the first rescheduled event being held at Cayuga.

Boland, who has been talking of retiring from driving after this year, would like to go out in style with another PMRA Championship. He did say he is not going to race without a giving it his best shot, adding he will be updating his Corvette before the next race.

I’ve got a truckload of new parts coming,” he mentioned, “including a new blower, injector, and tires. I’ve also got Carl Spiering’s ERD to help tune up the engine, and get it tweaked for the Grand Bend Motorplex.”

The next Pro Modified Racing Association event, presented by Torco Racing Fuels Ontario, the Teamsters Canada Thunder by the Beach Weekend featuring the "Night of Nitro" and Third Annual - PMRA Challenge will take place Saturday and Sunday, August 30-31 at the Grand Bend Motorplex in Grand Bend, Ontario.

There will be three PMRA qualifying sessions on Saturday, August 30 starting at 5:00 p.m. and the championship eliminations for the top eight qualifiers will begin Sunday at 12:00 noon.

About the Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA):
The Pro Modified Racing Association, Pro Modified Racing Association, was organized late in 2004, started racing operations in 2005, and is entering its fourth year of operation. The PMRA is a self-governing organization with input from its teams, and adheres to the technical and safety rules as outlined by the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). The series has event venues in Ontario, Quebec, and New York State.

Cars in the PMRA capture the true spirit of hot rodding, and the class is one of drag racing’s most exciting and colorful classes, offering a diverse group of race cars with different types of 2,500-horsepower supercharged, nitrous powered and turbocharged engines.

Combining classic body styles and modern equipment, constructors are permitted, within established rules and parameters, to modify and enhance the cars in both appearance and performance. The cars are fuelled by gasoline or methanol, propelling them down the quarter-mile in low six-second times at over 200 miles per hour. The PMRA provides drag race fans the opportunity to see, hear, and experience the popular Pro Modifieds, known as "the world's fastest door slammers".
