Callaway & Conway looking to stay hot in Indy

CLERMONT, Ind. - Just one week off their first win together, the duo of NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver Lee Callaway and car owner/tuner Tom Conway will enter the biggest race of them all, this weekend's Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis. Conway won the event last year as a car owner, and would love to give his new driver Callaway his first national event win at the "Big Go."

Callaway, from Baytown, Texas, is excited about driving the car that not only won Indy last year, but the World Championship.

"It's pretty exciting to get to drive for Tom at a big race like this," said Callaway. "We have had several races to 'click.' I'm feeling pretty comfortable in the car, so it's good to have that out of the way going into Indy. I just have to put all the hype aside and do my job. Evan Knoll and the Torco Race Fuels family have been very supportive of us this year, so hopefully we can put this Skull Shine car in the winner's circle for them."

Callaway and Conway not only want to defend their title, but gain valuable points this weekend. Callaway enters the event 17th in national points, but has only attended two national events this year. Racers in Top Alcohol Dragster can claim points at their best five of the first eight national events they attend, leaving Callaway six more national events to claim points this year.

"We started the year together late, so every race counts more now," stated Callaway. "Right now it's a long shot for us to win the national championship, but we still have enough races to do it if we win out. If we can just go rounds, the points will take care of themselves."

Qualifying begins on Thursday and will run until Saturday for the alcohol cars. Round one of eliminations will be Sunday morning, and final eliminations will conclude the event on Monday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
