Gilmer Hinshaw leads Mad Dawg qualifying

(5-03-08) Mocksville, NC - Threatening skies didn't slow down the action in the least at Farmington Dragway, site of the Outlaw Mad Dawg's season opener. A good field of cars, with some new faces shook things up for the doorslammer fans at The Farm.

The headlining act in qualifying was Gilmer Hinshaw and his gorgeous new Don Ness Colbalt. Hinshaw stepped up convincingly in round 3 qualifying, stopping the clocks with a 4.21 @ 174mph to take top spot.

Right on his heels is Rocky Raynor, who's had a shaky start in 08, but some recent testing has put Raynor's Rick Hendrick-sponsored Corvette back on track. Raynor laid down a 4.23 @ 172mph to slide into the second position.

Qualifying third was the only blown entry on the property, the 41 Willys of Todd Tutterow. The Lewisville resident clocked 4.24, with a big time mph of 176.26.

J.D. Goad, competing in his first ever Mad Dawg event, powered his way into the field with a restored Chevy Lumina motivated by PAR horsepower. Goad made his Mad Dawg debut with a 4.24 @ 173mph, landing him in the 4th spot.

Also making his Mad Dawg debut is Darrin Hoyle, whose 4.26 @173mph put the Taylorsville, NC car dealer in the number 5 spot. A late report has just came in that Hoyle is questionable for the event, as he is experiencing some type of mechanical problems.

Qualifying 6th was Jamie Chappel, whose Pontiac Grand Am punched his way into the show with a 4.26 @ 170mph.

Todd Howard took Jerry Williams' Ford Probe into the number 7 spot with a 4.26 @ 168mph. Howard, a past Quick-8 Racers Association Champion hopes to go some rounds tonight at the Farm in Mad Dawg trim.

Kerry Crosby is no stranger to Mad Dawg, he's raced in exactly one event with the series, walking away with an upset win in Mooresville against Todd Tutterow at the season-ending event. After 3 rounds of qualifying, Crosby sits on the bump of the 8 car field with a 4.27 @ 173mph.
