JEGS ProMod Challenge announces New York Motorsports Top Speed Award

DELAWARE, Ohio (April 29) -- Pro Mod racer David Hance hasn't contested a single event in the JEGS ProMod Challenge but he's so excited about the series that he's posting a $500 cash prize for the fastest racer at each of the tour's final seven national events. The New York Motorsports Top Speed Award will begin this weekend, May 2-4, with the 12th annual O’Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway International Raceway.

"Running top speed of the meet is a remarkable accomplishment and it's something we think should be recognized," Hance said. "We're honored to align ourselves with JEGS and the JEGS ProMod Challenge. They've done a wonderful job this year since they took over the series. The excitement level for Pro Mod racing is sky-high thanks to their exceptional efforts."

Hance is anxious to join the competition at some point in the near future. His New York Motorsports race team, led by crew chief Steve Petty, has been working feverously to get his turbo-powered '57 Chevy up to speed. He hopes to be on track in the next month.

A resident of Inwood, N.Y., Hance's racing endeavors are sponsored by Pro Line Race Engines, Precision Turbos, Big Stuff 3, Mickey Thompson Tires, New York Motorsports, and the Shakedown at E'town event, which he started.

"The New York Motorsports Top Speed Award is a really neat deal and it gives the guys some extra incentive to shoot for the big speed numbers that the fans love," series organizer Troy Coughlin said. "We're off to such a great start this year. The action has been second-to-none and the points battle is really turning into a dog fight. We had the quickest field ever in Atlanta and now we'll see these guys shoot for top speed every weekend. It's going to be fun.

"It's great for David and his organization to step up like this and show an interest in what we're doing. We look forward to having him out here on a regular basis in the future. I love the turbo cars and he's got a great hot rod coming so it will be fun to see how he runs. We certainly welcome him to our series."
