Cowin Will Return to Competition in Norwalk

Skull Shine World Nationals first event since win in Milan

WILMINGTON, N.C. (Aug. 22, 2006) – It’s only been a month since Andrew Cowin hopped in the Scott Griffin Motorsports/Serta Mattresses Top Fuel Dragster, tore down the track and ended up in the Winner’s Circle Sunday.

The Scott Griffin Motorsports team will face off with a field comprised of some of the finest Top Fuel drivers and cars in the world Aug. 24-27 at the World Nationals at Norwalk Raceway Park. Joining Cowin in the field will be Cory McClenathan, Hillary Will, Clay Millican, Doug Foley, Bruce Litton, J.R. Todd, Bobby Lagana, Jr and a host of others. Lagana is the driver Cowin topped in the Top Fuel final at the Suzuki Motor City Nationals July 9 to gain his first career national event victory in the United States.

“I’m very eager to get back behind the wheel and try to herd some “more” of our Serta Counting Sheep into the Winner’s Circle, Cowin said. The last time we raced was a weekend I will never forget…hopefully we can make memories at Norwalk Raceway Park, as we did at Milan MI.”

Cowin, currently sitting seventh in the IHRA Top Fuel championship points standings despite having raced at only three events, shows a lot of strength and talent. In his three events, he has scored an average of 77 points and has 230 this season. Millican, the current point’s leader with 482, has scored slightly over 80 points an event while Doug Foley, the #2 driver, has posted an average of 74 points per event.

“What’s in front of us is an incredibly strong field in Norwalk” team owner Scott Griffin said. “We have a great driver, a great crew chief, a great crew and a great car. We’re coming to Norwalk with all our guns blazing and, truthfully, expect to win the race. We just have to keep our focus.”

On Aug. 17 Griffin and Cowin took the Serta Dragster to Cape Fear Community College to help kick off the CFCC Foundation’s annual fund-raising drive.

“We had a great time at the collage,” Cowin said. “There were a lot of people who had never seen one of these cars up close and I had an excellent time talking to them about racing. It isn’t often you have a Top Fuel Dragster sitting in the common area on campus. We all really had a lot of fun.”
