ROWE AND COMPANY CONCENTRATE ON THE POSITIVE

(3-30-2008) HOUSTON, TX – Two races into the illustrious JEGS ProMod Challenge, Danny Rowe and teammate Kirk Kuhns find themselves nestled into the Top 10 in points, having a solid grasp on both the Hottinger Group-backed hot rods and on a mission to seal the deal in Atlanta.

“There’s nothing like having the second fastest car in the field, but having to race the fastest car in the field,” says Rowe. “It was unfortunate to have to meet up with Baker in the second round. We felt like we had a car that was capable of winning, but Joe Baker and that ’63 Corvette were a whole lot to handle. We made a good pass, but it wasn’t enough, that’s just part of racing.”

After qualifying the fan-favorite purple ’67 Camaro number five with a 6.01 at 238mph, Rowe went into eliminations paired up with Shelly Payne. While Payne is as capable of a competitor as there is, she didn’t have enough for the 6.05 posted by Rowe, sending Rowe into the quarter-finals where he’d meet Gatornationals Champ Joe Baker.

Baker, filling in for Roger Burgess behind the wheel of the Gotham City Racing ’63 Corvette, was on a hot streak after winning the season opener, but DRR Crew Chief, Jimmy Rector, was well prepared for the tough matchup.

“We didn’t have the choice lane going into the second round against Baker,” said Rector. “It’s tricky trying to run a number and get down the bad lane. Danny did a great job on the starting line, we just didn’t have quite enough. A 6.01 isn’t a bad pass, considering the circumstances, so we’re not disappointed. We’ve got a good handle on these cars and our program is really coming around. In Atlanta both Danny and Kirk will have the cars to beat.”

After an incredible DRR debut in Gainesville, Kirk Kuhns was riding high coming into the 2nd race of the season. Qualified 9th in the Hottinger Group ’41 Willys after a stout 6.05, he was paired up with John Russo in the opening round of action. Kuhns had a big holeshot, but didn’t have enough to hold off Russo’s Firebird on the big end.

“It’s disappointing to lose in the first round,” says Kuhns. “Obviously, that’s not what we want to do. Not for our sponsors and not for Danny Rowe Racing. We’re not disenchanted, though, we made four good laps in a row and we’re establishing a good collection of data. That’s a lot of what we’re doing with this two car team; we’re building a strong program and gathering data. Atlanta is going to be exciting and we’ve proven that we’ve got a team capable of winning with these last two outings.”

“This doesn’t take anything away from what we’ve already accomplished this year,” said team-owner and driver Danny Rowe. “Unfortunately, you can’t win them all. We don’t let ourselves get too excited in good times and never get discouraged in bad times. It’s important to have that balance and there is nothing but good things in store for this DRR program. Hot-lanta was pretty good last year, we qualified well and ran good, so I think we’re going to be tough.”

The next JEGS ProMod Challenge event will take place April 24-27 at Atlanta Dragway with the 28th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals.
