KENNY BERNSTEIN CREDITS MONSTER ENERGY/LUCAS OIL TEAM WITH MONSTROUS EFFORT TO REBUILD DODGE CHARGER AND QUALIFY NO. 4 AT TORCO RACING FUELS NATIONALS

RICHMOND, Va. (Oct. 7) – The Monster Energy/Lucas Oil team spent the week prior to the Torco Racing Fuels Nationals rebuilding their Dodge Charger Funny Car following Kenny Bernstein’s devastating collision with John Force in Dallas

Their monumental efforts paid off with a No. 4 qualifying spot obtained with a competitive 4.818-second elapsed time at 316.23 mph.

In the opening round of Funny Car eliminations at Virginia Motorsports Park , Bernstein faced Tony Bartone. The six-time NHRA world champion left before the starting line tree was activated and lost traction about half track. Bartone also struggled with tire spin, but was able to take the round win with a 5.276/207.02.

“We want to give credit to (crew chief) Jimmy Walsh and our team,” said Bernstein. “They spent a lot of man hours getting a new car put together. We qualified well, but we’re probably going to have to work some of the bugs out of the new chassis to find out what tune-up combination it really likes.

“We’ll continue to whittle away and make progress on that front.

“Meanwhile, as a team owner, we want to congratulate (son) Brandon and the entire Budweiser/Lucas Oil team for making the Countdown to Four. We’re excited about their opportunity to run for the Championship and we’ll be there to support them every step of the way.”

Kenny Bernstein is 11th in NHRA Funny Car point standings.
