Stott is drag racing Ironman

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (September 14, 2007) - In a lot of ways, he's a typical drag racer. Whether it's pushing the tree for every thousandth of reaction time he can garner or tweaking a tune-up for every possible ounce of horsepower, it's just another day at the races for Quain Stott.

But, before race day ever comes, you'll find Stott and his crew beating the streets from Darlington to the Carolina Dragway testing and testing and testing. If practice makes perfect, than Stott might have a corner on the market. With a sly smile and southern charm he'll try and convince you that he doesn't test that much... anymore. And like that old joke about the guy that doesn't drink anymore, he doesn't any less either.

Stott is working just as hard now as he ever has. Maybe smarter too, but just as hard.

"There's so many good teams and well-funded teams out here. You've got to figure out a way to stay a step ahead of them," Stott said.

This weekend, Stott takes his outlaw Torco powered LeeBoy Corvette to a track not far from his Columbus, North Carolina race shop. The Rockingham Dragway will host the ADRL's Eastern Race Fuels Drag Stock IV. It's close enough to feel like home and a track that Stott has plenty of experience with.

"Rockingham has one of the quickest tracks around," Stott said. "I was really surprised that someone hasn't broken the 200 mph barrier in the eighth mile ADRL yet. We got close in Valdosta and Jason Scruggs got even closer in Norwalk (199.11 mph). If the conditions are right in Rockingham, I think someone will take $10,000 (award for first car to go 200 mph) from Kenny (Nowling, President of ADRL)."

In his ADRL career, Stott has three wins and a .800 winning percentage. He was also 10-1 in his first 11 Pro Extreme rounds. "The ADRL has always been good to us," Stott added. "I wish our schedule allowed us to run more of these races. The fans are great and they bring a lot of excitement for Pro Modified racing."

This season, Stott is also defending his IHRA Pro Modified Championship. He's currently in forth place, just 87 points behind Scott Cannon, Jr. with three races remaining.
