Koretsky Focusing on Collecting First NHRA Pro Stock Victory

With a semifinal finish at Indianapolis less than two weeks ago and good test results this week as positive reinforcements, Pro Stock driver Kenny Koretsky believes the proper ingredients are in place to cook up an upset victory at the O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals this weekend at Memphis Motorsports Park.

Should he do so, it would be the first win of his 30-plus year career. It ould, in all likelihood, kick off a wild celebration on Beale Street.

"We tested at St. Louis Monday and Tuesday and I'm confident that (crew chief) Eddie (Guarnaccia) has a good handle on the combination. We made nine runs this week and it seemed to me we were running pretty good," said Koretsky, driver of Greg Hill's Indicom Electric/Nitro Fish Chevy Cobalt. "There's no question our whole goal is to win at least one race before the season is over."

The Richboro, Pa.-based Koretsky has five more opportunities - races at Dallas (Sept. 23), Richmond, Va. (Oct. 7), Las Vegas (Oct. 28) and Pomona, Calif. (Feb. 4) remain in the POWERade series.

***He flirted with a victory at Bristol, Tenn., losing to Jeg Coughlin by eight-thousandths of a second, and reached the semifinals Denver and Indy.

"I have confidence in what I can do on race day," added Koretsky. "We want to put together four good rounds on Sunday."

Koretsky qualified 10th at Indy and beat Larry Morgan and Jim Yates. His .015-second reaction time against Yates was second only to Greg Anderson's .014 during Monday's Pro Stock eliminations.

"We like racing at Memphis. Maybe good things will happen this weekend," Koretsky said.

KYLE Koretsky, meanwhile, continued his strong performances in the Super Comp Sportsman category. The younger of Kenny Koretsky's two sons advanced to the semifinals in a NHRA Division 2 race last weekend, winning five rounds. It was Kyle's second divisional race. He also reached the semis in his first Super Comp race and now has 10 round wins.

Kenny Koretsky said Kyle will make his national event debut at Richmond, Va., Oct. 5-7.
