Politics Room?
What would everyone think about putting that back as a part of the Lounge again? You could still forbid anything political in signatures, avatars, etc.

I voted "no", but that's only because I'm not interested in it for myself. IMO, I don't think we should mix this racing site, which is for fun, with something so serious as politics.

Sounds like a political statement.

I'm an admitted political junkie. But when it comes to a "politics room" I would vote no. As was said above, there are plenty of places on the net to discuss that stuff. Plain and simple, I enjoy this place precisely because it's about drag racing rather than politics or religion.

No one had to go into the Politics Room in the Lounge unless they wanted to. It was a separate sub forum. If a person is not interested in Politics or Relgion, then I would imagine they would not go into that Room. Plain & Simple.
We are living in the most dangerous times in anyone's life and politics is a very relevant issue. Drag racers are not one dimensional, at least not the ones I know. They have many interests and are capable of multi-thinking. Of course there are lots of places on the internet to discuss politics. However, being able to do so with others of like mind in a place devoted to the one thread that binds us all together, drag racing, is an appropriate issue. If a person is not interested in politics, all they have to do is not go into the Room.

There are plenty of political forums, on the net. I belong to a couple. If I want to discuss politics, I go there. My vote is no.

In keeping with the new, PC 'Mater, the one place that more animosity was generated between posters was the old Politics Room. True, the subject matters discussed there was usually pretty timely, but it was alot easier for some of those folks to express their beliefs behind the mask of a screen name, and usually, it was with quite a bit of venom.
It was not the place to challenge the word of the Majority Right, and the rain of wrath would usually follow some posters around from thread to thread, and even spread into some of the racing-related threads, causing some pretty unfriendly (read: non-PC) barbs between posters from both sides of the aisle. Definiately not where the "new" 'Mater is trying to go...
I agree that there are other places to discuss the conditions of the world, and if it is your belief that you would like to debate other "Maters on the subject, post a thread with a link to a site that you can debate the subject with those for and against, and go over there to swing the gloves... Nobody says you have to open anything up and read it, and with having to jump to another site to debate the subject, it is then open to YOUR OWN FREE WILL whether or not you care to participate... So don't be bringin' the *****in back here if you do!!!

Will someone please delete the Immigration thread in the Lounge? Nothing more politically charged then that subject.
Y'all have a nice day.

I voted no. you don't discuss religion or politics unless you want to fight. I 'm not here to fight.
to say 'just don't go there then' well, like a moth to a flame, sooner or later we do , because as has been said, the subjects are important.
but I really don't need to know who's a righty and who's a lefty around here.
I need to know who thinks the clowndown is a good thing.
that's enough to piss me off

Not discussing controversial subjects only serves to keep a mind closed. Just my opinion of course.

I believe that "being here to fight" and being willing to stand up for what you believe in with the ability to compare reasons are two different things.
I just thought that saying everything with our names attached for political discussions now would work toward the same end that they're trying to achieve for the drag racing sections. So many thinking that "insult" and "personal attack" equalled "debating" was what kept me out of the politics room toward the end of the old mater.
I remember an old mater who had two screen names asking me in PMs to stop quoting a personal attack against me in association with his real name. I told him not to ever say anything that he'd be ashamed of and he wouldn't have to worry about it in the first place.
I can see that what is a world event and what is political is going to be pretty murky. You can turn just about any of the former into the latter. LOL, I did it just by jokingly commenting about people "voting" that they didn't want politics here.

Gee... I just voted NO....
I ex-Military, believe in Mom, Apple Pie, and the American way... strange from a child of the 60's....
There's also a reason I moved my family from California 23 years ago... but that politics...
I'm a walking Contradiction, partly truth, partly fiction... as the song goes...
What I have with most of you is a Deep Burning Love for the Sport of Drag Racing...
Why ruin that by bringing in what we may or may not see eye-to-eye with as far as the way different parts of the Country think is best for them...
Remember... todays Conserative was concidered a Liberal 40 years ago

I especially agree with your last statement, Karl. As I heard someone else say it once "A 60s Democrat was more conservative than today's Republicans." (JFK believed in low taxes and I've got some 70s campaign materials that were distributed by a Democrat that read, among other things, "Join the tax revolt!")
I just enjoyed the "one stop shopping" of the old mater. While I've had my complaints about what some people consider to be "debating", I will say that political discussions on the old mater have been at a higher level on average than on other anonymous message boards. Regardless which side of the political fence you may be on (I'm on both sides, depending on the issue, LOL), I think the common love of drag racing causes people to at least be more goal-oriented in the first place.
I thought this poll would have gone the other way, so it's been educational for me.
