Threw it out to a few friends, one's too busy sanding to get back to me, one's sleeping in Japan, or is it Thailand this week, one said it was up to me, and the one with the pretty eyes said go fer it. So here we go.
I've been around drag racing since the mid sixties... Whom ever lived the the home we moved into on Anthony Ave in Garden Grove in '64, left a set of 392 heads... I was ten at the time...
I was 13 the first time I went to Lions, 18 the first time I made a pass at OCIR on a Wednesday night... man it was ugly... red-lit, blew off the tires, and missed the 2/3 throw...
First time I saw a flopper up close, was at a father/son night in the 7th grade... Ray Alley's car...
I gopher'd some in high school... '70 to '72, and didn't miss a Nitro show at the county or lions from '69 until I entered the Navy 7 March 1973... the weekend before I went to my First March Meet... I was at the Last Drag Race at Lions... it was a school night, and I had to be home by eleven, so I missed the finals...
birthday's tomorrow... think it's spice cake w/lemon frosting... but as always, I'll be thinking of Jungle and Zookeeper, and Dickie Harrell...
and all the HEROES from the World Trade Center... Damn, I've always dreaded this week.
