Monday afternoon Recovering

Posted 10-08-2007 at 05:19 PM by Karl Stalcup
Playing the Fan, but paying attention to what was going on around me all weekend...

First Off, it's a buck eighty round trip to VMP from here... about 8-1/2 gallons or $20 a day... and just a little over three hours drive time... Parking comes in 3 levels... 5 bucks for the mud bogg pit, and Friday started out looking like a washout at 8AM, 10 bucks, better, flatter location 5 minute walk from the gate, or the 25 buck, gee, I'm special, my pimped rice rocket ain't got no ground clearance, 2 minutes from
the gate lot...

I paid $10 a day...

breakfast each morning at the Waffle House, 2 over easy, hash browns, toast and a couple of cups of mud... 5 bucks and a buck tip...

"dinner" Friday at the Hot Rod Cafe, 2 dawgs and a med cola, no ice... $10 (9 and a buck tip)

"din-lunch" Saturday at the HRC, slider and large cola, no ice... $10(9 and a tip)

Coffee at the HRC is 2 bucks a cup... 3 each day... that killed a $20

Guess my point there is, it doesn't kill me to leave a buck... they are making minimum, and by Saturday morning, the nice lady in the window had my coffee ready... The same lady that took my orders last year...

Next thing I found out... well first let me say, Thank You David for my Avatar... and people, we have a lot of lurkers here... I was surprised how many people stopped me and asked where they knew me from... and I kid you not, I got asked for my autograph three times...

And thank you Scoop, Phil Burkett, Mike Dunn, "Uncle Austin", and Teach... Mike M, unk signed a picture of my all time favorite car, even said that was back went it was fun...

VMP did a couple of things I didn't understand... for Friday, they only had 2 sections with reserved seating, Saturday and Sunday, Just 4... Last year, I bought general admission, I knew what I was getting, so I stood at the fence at 660... all five days... LOL... so This Year on Friday for the one Hit, I sat right at the sixty foot block in the 3rd row... Saturday, row1 'seat' 25, Sunday row 2 'seat' 23 Section D which is about 250 out or so... and that as far down the track as you can get reserved seats...

The problem was Saturday, with young kids 'checking' tickets... and people with general admit tickets... "Every Ticket Is A Pit Pass... BUT, Every Ticket Isn't A Guarantied Seat"
The fence was about ten deep, and yeah, there was opens seats around me most of the day, but, I Paid for a reserved seat, so did the people around me... The same people all three days... most only came back to their seats for "Pro" qualifying... We've talked about 'Jumpers'... well, when you've got general admit people standing 4 deep on the Stairs landing... the first five rows of seats are yelling down in front and the @$$holes yell back "I paid for a ticket and I'll stand where every I F'ing want..."... yeah, Saturday was UGLY...

At least Sunday, we had Real Bouncers... but the general admit stands were on their feet all day... and you couldn't see the left lane from 330 on without standing...

More tomorrow... But Congrats To both Special K. and Melanie... Wildthing and Ron... and DC for 5 in a Row???

And Angello... was great meeting you

Later
D'kid

if it makes ya feel any better...things aren't much better at Route 66....seating for 20,000 people, only 12,00 show up and 2,000 stand on the fences, but we still have to fight for a section for people that have racer passes cuz let's face it...the place may suddenly get a 10,000 person rush
