Kids... Street Racing IS BAD... I know this, but when I was young and dumb....
Katella Ave between Valley View and Knott.... two lanes each direction, about a mile and a quarter stretch through the middle of strawberry fields...
We used to run there after work a couple of nights a week... see, there were four gas stations at Valley View and Chapman... the Chevron I worked at, we all drove MoPars, The Mobil was all FoMoCo guys, The Shell station was all Chevy guys, and the 76? AMX, a Henry J, and a poncho or two...
Strange, didn't know half the guy's names... even though I went to school with a lot of them... except AMX, and Nova, they both we're in their early twenties...
not saying the cops looked the 'other way', but I remember one night around midnight as we were locking up that two of GGPD finest, one in an older (69) Satellite, the other in a New 401 Matador, punched off right in front of the gas stations... and the Nash dusted the MoPar....
but... I even 'made the run' a 'couple' of times up Katella... had a winning record and made a few bucks.... and none of this spot you x lead or any of that, it was always heads up....
Nova, a 67, with a poked and stroked mouse and a 4spd, would jerk the wheel always on the 2/3 throw... he was running against an austin healey with a mouse and turbo 350 on night, the A/H wasn't from the area and we never saw him again.... We lost Nova that night in the strawberry fields...
